Silhouette

....The wait was worth it... isn't it?

The temp is 9 deg and dropping..It takes me around 10 min to walk from my room to the lab. I can feel the wind chill flowing over my body even with 3 layers of cloth over my body.

Its 8:00 am still misty outside.. Not brave enough to open the window to let air in. The heater is ON.. keeps us warm 'somewhat'...my roomie is still sleeping...but this time the roomie has changed... i have slight headache...not because of the wine i had last night but too many simulations can get you a head ache...Anyways, i goto the bathroom to start my day. I go into the TIMELINE... i take my oralB and local toothpaste called microsfere con (with) microgranules and start brushing me teeth....first on the left side after few in's and out's ,i go to the right hand side and after few in's and out's..i'm done with the brushing... About soaps, well we get the same soaps that we get in india..(atleast i found it like that..)..Palmolive.. What a name!!! Seems to be a mix of Palm oil and Olive oil in the soap.. but in any case it is after all a sodium cake... TIMELINE over... i switch on the TV... and change the channel to MTV.... These guys suck everywhere.. same songs over and over again....

Its 8:45 am...all dressed up...looking like i'm wearing a spacesuit or somethin'.. anyways i take my bag and walk towards the gate.... and into the street... Its cold..i can feel the wind chill flowing over my body... I take a detour towards a caffe bar...

Me: Ciao.
The Lady: Ciao.

Me: Uno Cappucino e Uno bombolona (a kind of italian sweet filled with Choclate)
The Lady: Ok.

Me: Grazie.
The Lady: Forie? (Outside?)

Me: Si..(Yes..)
(People generally prefer to take a quick drink inside the bar...and ofcourse chat with the lady..)

Anyways, i get cappucino, bombolona, acqua (water) and sugar packets.... Nice weather by the way..
After finishing the breakfast, i go to the counter and pay the bill which comes to 2.10 euros..

Me: Ciao ( Bye)

I walk slowly towards my laboratory... After crossing few roads and after watching few chicks (..fully covered..) i reach the laboratory...

I go into the TIMELINE.... "work".... prof comes and asks for the results.. "work"....

Its 12:30pm.. time for a pizza... Me and my friend go to a resturant ... we order for verdure (vegitable) Pizza... stuffed with olive oil and cheese we can see the vegitables cooked and lying on top of the pizza... i take a bite.. Mmmmmm absolutely marvelous.... So after about 30-40 min we leave the place paying him around 20 bucks...

Its 2:00 pm, i am in the lab..fully stuffed.. can't say how much but upto to the rim.. no more TIMELINES.. now time for sleep... ha ha ha..... to reduce the pizza hangover ( i believe i can use it here..) i go towards a coffee vending machine.. but this time only caffe.. a strong coffee without milk...

And the rest of the day in another part... so till then... song recommendation

What's the difference?

There are two things which i wanted to share..

Firstly,

I am attending italian language course..and obviously there are guys and girls from many parts of the globe...like my friend faisal from pakistan, paschen frm stuttgart, oriana from france, hot-chick from spain, joke(its pronounced like that..i donno xact wordings) from belgium..etc etc.. and then obviously countless chingis for the fill-in..

It so happend that we had overstayed without getting the permit of stay within 8 days..and we had to rush in to the foreign office 3 times..but they said that it was o.k nothing to worry about...
we were standing in the queue (Here too we have to come very early to get things done...) we met this guy from palestine called mohammed.

Me:Hey mohammed. Come stai? (How are you?)

He:Molto bene..(Very Good)

Well thats as far as i can go in italian and finally i had to stick to english for the next talk onwards.. as a matter of fact even he too.. He ahs come here to study medicine.. and just completed his high school..i mean 12th as we call it here..

He:Well, here i am having a tough time with the food..Back in palestine we get lot of varities..
Me: Yeah, me too..Back in india we get ot of varities..

He: Like what?
Me: Like, masal dosa, idly vada, pani puri (i think i went on and on for 5 min)..

He:Yeah even we get lot of items..

Me:Like dates,badam,pistas..etc etc..
He:Whats badam? whats pista?

Me:do u cook or u get from the market..
He: I sometimes cook..

Me:Right now only pizzas and pastas..(pointing to my friend) he doen't eat meat..
He:Oh!! and what about u?

Me:yeah i eat but only a selected ones..i mean chicken legs, chicken wings, chicken breast...but not chicken feet, chicken head and chicken feathers..

He: Oh i see..that means you don't eat beef, and pork..
me:Nailed it.

He:yeah we don't eat pork..but y u don't eat beef..?
Me: ( i had to stat the story from ramayana.. and tell him that you will find more cows walking around the roads that traffic polices)

He:Do you drink?
Me:No.

He: Yeah in quran it is not allowed to drink... Even i don't drink...that means we are same but the difference is COW..
Me: Oh! is it?

He:Do u have girlfriends?
Me:No.

He:Even i don't have girlfrinds...that means we are same... but the difference is COW..

Although i have presented a very vague cross-secion of that guy..he is really funny...

Secondly,

The above picture is of Brian burton and Themas Callaway together called Gnarls Barkley Their first album, St. Elsewhere, was released by Warner Music on April 24, 2006 in the UK and on May 9 in the US by Atlantic/Downtown Records.

"Crazy", their first single was released as a single on April 3, 2006, preceded by its release as digital download and 12" Vinyl record single in March 2006. On 2 April 2006, it became the first ever UK number one single based on download sales alone.

So what i suggest is you guys out there "Beg, Buy,Borrow,Steal or Download"... a must listen song...

i have it 'ON' as i am writing this...

So till then...
Maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably

A Brand New day

Blog has turned 2 this month...Happy Birthday.

So i had to wait for four hours in Frankfurt....i was directed to counter number 1C..There was a big line there..probably the boarding had started..then i found out that i had to wait for 4hrs. I went to luftansa counter...there was a big queue...a guy from africa was going to stockholm...and aunty from india was standing in front of that guy.Since the queue was long..the african guy decided that he couldn't stand in the queue..so he left his bag there and asked the aunty to look after it...So aunty was asking me as to where to i was heading?US? i said no....to Italy.Well she was going to US..so she asked all those blah blah and more blahs....there was a lady who had just joined the line...

The started moving slowly..the lady behind me asked about the bag the african had left..i said it was not mine..i think she got a little suspicious about the bag..i told her that the guy is sitting there..its his bag..but she went on with all the crap(Bombs and stuffs) and the ladies in the counter were informed about the bag...i told her that the bag belongs to the guy who was sitting there...the line had stared moving...and the guy came to pick his bag..Oh!these mindless foreingers...

I got my boarding pass....and had to wait for four hrs in the airport. At about...4 in the evening i boarded Luftansa..to bologna,Italy...the only indian on the plane.( the airhostess was good)

5:30pm i called up hotel were a room booked and confirmed the booking. i took a taxi to bologna.

The Last Day

Thank You.
So a new canteen has been opened, our block getting renovated. The proudest block to live in because C.V.Raman stayed there. The E block.

Its 8:00am, friday. I got up early today somewhat, my roomie still sleeping. He had night shift. I reach for toothpaste : its empty. Well, whats a roomie for? I take my brush filled with toothpaste and walk towards bathroom. I realize that the bathroom has been under renovation because of the long lasting demands of the students to renovate the 80yr old bathroom..... i begin to wonder.. why does my post always contain a mention of bathroom??? anyways, i move on to the other side of the block.
Its 8:45am,friday.Next stop mess. Well i decided to do something different. I went to Coffee board, where they serve real good Idly Vadas.
Its 10:00am,Friday. i know ,i know for the rest of the day it will remain friday...but still. I am in lab now..National MEMS Design Centre.. recently our dudes have designed a new website for our lab..anyways, we clicked some pictures with our profs and all the lab members.... said goodbye to all of the guys.. Well very few labmates are remaining. Most of them have left either to US or they got good jobs.
12:30 friday, very special lunch for me.. rice, dal fry some more fry and then omlette... Take my place. Search for some familiar faces..
The rest of the day.. spend stuffing up my stuffs in the bag. No more football. No more IISc chicks (as if i had one).. no more sandwiches in faculty club... no more riding in bicycle. No more guys pestering for design problems...
Its 8:30pm Friday, i have completed stuffing almost all the materials. i reach for my back pack. one more paper left to put inside the bag. A copy of the resignation letter.
Its 9:00pm my bus is at 9:30 i figure out that it needs atleast 25min to reach the stop. i hurry up. The person puts all the luggage inside the bus. 8 more hours to reach home. Me see the busstop for the last time... Put the pillow underneath the head, reach the oblivion...

Joga Bonito

Well a game is a game is a game, as someone once said (.....probably just me). Anyway, what a wonderful month it was....right from day one, it was just pure fun.....for every match, we used to take sides and rejoice if our team wins, shake our head if it looses and then on to the next match, new sides to take and etc...then the big ones, the quarters, semis and then the final....there we were, me, gatty and the rest of the guys watching the climax of the greatest show on earth....we did expect fireworks and boy, did we get it!...all the wonderful passes, "yaaah" goals, the "ooooh" misses, the pushing and the shoving, the "oscar-winning" injuries and then the finale...not the head-butting dear, but the penalty kicks....and what a nail biting finish!...and of course, then the usual blaming and counter-blaming, blah blah. What mattered at the end was a nation with no footballing team to speak of, enjoys the global game and celebrates the victory/weeps in defeat, as if it was its own. Now, what more could we ask for? Joga Bonito !!

Heart break...

What ever said and done....Zinédine Yazid Zidane will always be remembered as the greatest footballer ever (atleast by me) ..and he was righlty given the Golden Ball award. He was the one who single handedly brought France to the finals...and single handedly deprived it of the CUP..but still i feel france should have won the FIFA cup. One cannot forget the pass he gave to ribery in the match against spain and the goal he scored after that. But ultimately what matters is not the feeling, but how many goals have been scored and Italians had it in them....LUCK. This four letter word is the one which decides between WIN and LOSE. But Zidane had that four letter word in his feets....

Commenting about the game: Italians played one of the most pathetic game i have seen. They had 9 defenders, 1 striker and a goalie. No counter attack and no attack which the italians have always been known for. In fact the attack style "Blitzkreig" was brought up by them. They fully showed this style against the germans....thats italians...thats the game they play (Both the goals scored against germans came from the clearance by the defenders) But what happend on sunday.??? were they afraid of french defence..Thuram, Mekelele....at al?

One header to Buffons gloves and the other to Materazzi's chest. I believe that RED card was a little bit harsh on him...47 seconds after the match started cannavaro almost knocked Henry COLD.... but who saw..nobody protested...So no Yellow.. no RED..and what about Figo's header in the match against holland? He was given a clean chit....anyways.. Lets not talk about who is right nor who is wrong..its all in the game..thats what makes football more interesting and continues to inspire billions of souls....Probably its the 'idiosyncracy of the genius souls'

MARADONA WAS ONE OF THEM.......................

.............and the song which is played in back ground....

Artist: The Animals

Song: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood

Baby, do you understand me now

Sometimes I feel a little mad

But don't you know that no one alive

Can always be an angel

When things go wrong I seem to be bad

But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Baby, sometimes I'm so carefree

With a joy that's hard to hide

And sometimes it seems that all I have do is worry

Then you're bound to see my other side

But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

If I seem edgy I want you to know

That I never mean to take it out on you

Life has it's problems and I get my share

And that's one thing I never meant to do

Because I love you

Oh, Oh baby don't you know I'm human

Have thoughts like any other one

Sometimes I find myself long regretting

Some foolish thing some little simple thing I've done

But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Votta Game....!!!

It was 5:30 pm and i knew today there was match between Argentina and Serbia & montenegro. Well my prediction was 2-0. Pretty decent i felt.. i have a long chart of predictions for all the matches...anyways, i went to mess..took a glass of milk poured tea decoction and a spoon of sugar.. there was Veg Puff to eat..i took a seat and started to eat....in front of me there was a guy who was reading 'Times' newspaper....i was waiting for that guy to leave the paper and go....After 5 min he finishes of his tea and goes away...me quickly grabs the paper and start reading...one hand tea one hand times..Oh! i forgot to tell you there is no coffee in the mess, the mess officials have protested by not giving us coffee since the coffee vending machine has broken down and it is not repaired by the hostel authorities..so u know..tit 4 tat...Ok politics apart, its 6:00pm the match starts at 6:30pm...me, finishes of the times paper and tea...and go towards the hostel TV room...TV room is not that spacious but enough for 50 guys to cramp in..but quite understood, knowing that there is a TV in each floor of the hostel. Anyways, i pick a chair and sat tightly glued to the TV. Star movies, nobody was watching that..but still it was running...everybody are waiting for 6:30 with newspapers in their hand....the clock starts ticking and people start pouring......

"Abe baaju hat.."
"sir, thoda iss taraf..."
"Can you please remove the chair...thank you"
"Neeche bait jaa..."

So now the room is packed..and one fellow rightly changes the channel to ESPN..we see harsha bhogle's face...with 2 other fellows predicting a win for ARG.

Jose Perkerman had said before the tournament, that the tactic would be to hold the possession around the penalty area and create tension before unleashing a strike when least expected.

To be brief; it was 3-0 in the first half. The 2nd goal which was netted by cambiasso was a classic. After 22 passes cambiasso nets the ball, total team effort. S&M had no answer at all..They had held Netherland to 1-0. So quite a good team..but the story is not yet over..

Second half yet to come...The game was drifting after the second half started. However Carlos Tevez came in for Saviola while Lionel Messi for Maxi and the game struck fire once again. Crespo got the goal he deserved making him the tournament’s leading scorer, after a beautiful pass from Messi. While Tevez dodged two defenders and struck a goal. Messi scored the final goal, because the score sheet just wouldn’t look right without his name on it. 6-0

They say Riquelme is the missile and crespo the warhead...deadly combination for argentina.. and pekerman has got Messi,Tevez and Aimar up his sleeves.

Match not to be missed...

So till then..Viva la Argentina..

Yours Gattz

Very Inspiring ............

There are many stories which our grand mothers used to say about the maharaja's and the ancient mythologies and their awe inspiring courage in which the good beats the evil. But here is something which generations after generations will reiterate the courage of the young lad, who with the swing of his bat taught the whole world what we can become.......

1989-1990 Pakistan v India, 1st Test, National Stadium:

Picture this: Pakistan's National Stadium, packed to the rafters with home team supporters roaring their team on against the hated enemy. In the middle, easily the most fearsome pace attack of the time - the young Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram, backed by the legendary Imran Khan. Krish Srikkanth, Navjot Sidhu and Sanjay Manjrekar are blasted out in rapid succession (13/3). Prabhakar is fourth out - and a young lad of just over 16 years walks out into the cauldron.
Imran sets an attacking field, and the two fearsome young fast bowlers go for blood, with a barrage of short-pitched deliveries that buzz around the tyke's head. A ball from Younis rears up and smacks the youngster on the helmet. Concerned, the close in fielders and the bowler rush up to render assistance. The youngster shakes his head to clear it - and through the visor of his helmet, boyish eyes glare in defiance. He scored only 15 that day - but in the nerveless fashion in which he took guard again after having his bell rung, he announced himself a man among men.

Lets ask ourselves two questions:How many feet did Orville and Wilbur Wright traverse in their first flight? And what was our own biggest accomplishment at age 16?

1990, England v India, 2nd Test, Old Trafford:

England 519. India - powered by a swashbuckling 179 from Mohammad Azharuddin - 432. England in the second innings, 320 for 4 declared, leaving India 408 to make to win. What follows, is a sorry procession: Ravi Shastri, Navjot Sidhu, Sanjay Manjrekar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Azharuddin back in the hut with 109 on the board. Kapil Dev follows, 18 runs later.
And then a lad not yet old enough to qualify for a driving license drives England's attack to distraction. While Manoj Prabhakar (67 not out) holds his end up with dogged determination, the boy wonder cuts loose. A defensive innings at that point would have been hailed as a masterpiece - but 17-year-old Tendulkar attacks, shots of scintillating brilliance punctuating an unbeaten innings of 119 that carries his team to safety.

Passion to do something for the country is only amongst few.......Sachin is one amongst them....Very Inspiring.

Chaos Theory

What exactly is chaos? The name "chaos theory" comes from the fact that the systems that the theory describes are apparently disordered, but chaos theory is really about finding the underlying order in apparently random data.

When was chaos first discovered? The first true experimenter in chaos was a meteorologist, named Edward Lorenz. In 1960, he was working on the problem of weather prediction. He had a computer set up, with a set of twelve equations to model the weather. It didn't predict the weather itself. However this computer program did theoretically predict what the weather might be.

One day in 1961, he wanted to see a particular sequence again. To save time, he started in the middle of the sequence, instead of the beginning. He entered the number off his printout and left to let it run.

When he came back an hour later, the sequence had evolved differently. Instead of the same pattern as before, it diverged from the pattern, ending up wildly different from the original. (See figure) Eventually he figured out what happened. The computer stored the numbers to six decimal places in its memory. To save paper, he only had it print out three decimal places. In the original sequence, the number was .506127, and he had only typed the first three digits, .506.

By all conventional ideas of the time, it should have worked. He should have gotten a sequence very close to the original sequence. A scientist considers himself lucky if he can get measurements with accuracy to three decimal places. Surely the fourth and fifth, impossible to measure using reasonable methods, can't have a huge effect on the outcome of the experiment. Lorenz proved this idea wrong.

This effect came to be known as the butterfly effect. The amount of difference in the starting points of the two curves is so small that it is comparable to a butterfly flapping its wings.

" The flapping of a single butterfly's wing today produces a tiny change in the state of the atmosphere. Over a period of time, what the atmosphere actually does diverges from what it would have done. So, in a month's time, a tornado that would have devastated the Indonesian coast doesn't happen. Or maybe one that wasn't going to happen, does."
(Ian Stewart, Does God Play Dice? The Mathematics of Chaos, pg. 141)

This phenomenon, common to chaos theory, is also known as sensitive dependence on initial conditions. Just a small change in the initial conditions can drastically change the long-term behavior of a system. Such a small amount of difference in a measurement might be considered experimental noise, background noise, or an inaccuracy of the equipment. Such things are impossible to avoid in even the most isolated lab. With a starting number of 2, the final result can be entirely different from the same system with a starting value of 2.000001. It is simply impossible to achieve this level of accuracy - just try and measure something to the nearest millionth of an inch!

From this idea, Lorenz stated that it is impossible to predict the weather accurately. However, this discovery led Lorenz on to other aspects of what eventually came to be known as chaos theory.

Chaos has already had a lasting effect on science, yet there is much still left to be discovered. Many scientists believe that twentieth century science will be known for only three theories: relativity, quantum mechanics, and chaos. Aspects of chaos show up everywhere around the world, from the currents of the ocean and the flow of blood through fractal blood vessels to the branches of trees and the effects of turbulence. Chaos has inescapably become part of modern science. As chaos changed from a little-known theory to a full science of its own, it has received widespread publicity. Chaos theory has changed the direction of science: in the eyes of the general public, physics is no longer simply the study of subatomic particles in a billion-dollar particle accelerator, but the study of chaotic systems and how they work.

It may not be that your exsistance depended on chaos or may be it is......
Science is Beautiful isn't it?

[**Thanx to mukesh who introduced me to chaos and greg rae for the material]
